Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility at The Diabetes Link

At The Diabetes Link, we are committed to developing an inclusion mindset that prioritizes growth through listening, learning, and action.  Our commitment is rooted in the belief that purposeful and pervasive diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility are mandatory to effectively deliver our mission of supporting young adults living with diabetes while serving as a formative voice for young adults who are our world's next generation of leaders.

We recognize the importance of representation and the need for diverse perspectives to effectively address the complex challenges faced by young adults living with diabetes.

  1. Young adults with diabetes are represented in all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, religions, abilities, and socioeconomic statuses.
  2. Young adults living with diabetes share common health challenges, yet their differences create unique challenges that The Link must evolve to understand and meet.
  3. Reaching internal diversity goals optimizes our ability to understand and serve the various needs of our diverse community and achieve the organization’s objectives to serve all communities with diabetes.

We also recognize that achieving this goal will require a steadfast commitment to evolve.  As such, our commitment to DEIA is not just a statement but a proactive approach integrated across our organization. Our strategy and tactics are created in collaboration with external DEIA experts to ensure our approach is grounded in best practices and effective measures.

DEIA Pillars in Action

We are committed to identifying and addressing systemic barriers that may hinder the advancement of underrepresented groups within our organization.

Fostering Inclusion: We are committed to creating a culture of belonging where every voice is heard, valued, and respected. We actively promote open communication, collaboration, and empathy among our team members, constituents, and partners.

Continuous Learning and Improvement: We recognize that achieving true diversity, equity, and inclusion requires ongoing education, self-reflection, and accountability. We are dedicated to continuously learning, evolving, and challenging ourselves to do better.

Community Engagement: We actively engage with diverse communities to understand their unique needs, experiences, and perspectives. We strive to build meaningful partnerships and collaborations that amplify marginalized voices and address systemic inequalities.
